You can file a claim for a slip-and-fall accident injury

Slip-and-fall accidents usually happen because a person isn't paying attention, but that doesn't necessarily mean that the accident is his or her fault. In fact, when it comes to a business premises or even the home of a friend, there are some times when the owner of the home or business will be liable for your injuries.

For example, if you walk into a building on a wet day and see no wet-floor signs, the business may be taking a chance; if you slip and fall, you could claim that there was no warning that the inside of the building would be wet. The same is true if there is a spill in an aisle; if no warning is in place, you could seek compensation for falling and hurting yourself.

Property owners need to make sure they clean up all spills as soon as possible after they occur to reduce their liability for an accident. If wet areas or spills can't be cleaned up right away, the area has to be marked. Things like rugs that slip or have edges that could catch a person's foot or shoe should be replaced or repaired to eliminate a risk of falling.

Walkways and working areas should always be well-lit, too. Someone who suffers a fall because of tripping in the dark area of a storage room has every right to file a complaint since the business owner didn't ensure the area was easy to navigate. Our website has more information on what to do if you've been injured in a slip-and-fall accident.
